US President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Monday imposing a 10% tariff on goods imported from China. This latest trade protection measure of the United States has been widely opposed by the international community and the United States.
The White House said on the same day that the United States would impose a 10% tariff on all goods imported from China on top of existing tariffs. Trump said this dovetails with the "protectionist measures" he supports.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said earlier that China has repeatedly stated its position and always believes that there is no winner in a trade war and tariff war. China has always been firm in safeguarding its national interests. A spokesman for China's Commerce Ministry said earlier that China's position on the tariff issue is consistent. According to the executive order, the United States will also impose a 25% tariff on imports from Mexico and Canada, including a 10% tax increase on Canadian energy products.
